PSCI Says AI Hiring Demand Is Outpacing Qualified Talent Across Industries
The Wilmington IT staffing firm said employers are struggling to tell classroom AI knowledge from hands-on project experience.

PSCI, an IT staffing and consulting firm based in Wilmington, said employers across several sectors are having a harder time finding artificial intelligence professionals whose experience matches what their projects actually require.
The firm, which supports workforce planning for clients, said demand for AI skills has grown faster than the supply of candidates with applied technical and operational backgrounds. Healthcare, financial services, logistics and manufacturing are all competing for the same people, PSCI said, and hiring managers often struggle to separate theoretical knowledge from hands-on project work when reviewing applicants. Shifting tools, frameworks and compliance expectations make it difficult for companies to settle on consistent definitions for these roles.
"Organizations are encountering a gap between the pace of AI adoption and the availability of professionals with the appropriate technical and operational experience," said Sean O'Neill, President and CEO of PSCI.
According to the firm, employers are increasingly looking for people who can work across data science, software engineering and business operations, a move toward interdisciplinary roles tied to responsible deployment and long-term system upkeep. In response to the shortage, many companies are putting money into internal training, mentorship and phased project staffing rather than competing for a small outside talent pool, particularly as AI work moves out of pilot stage and into daily operations.
PSCI also said that data privacy, model transparency and regulatory requirements are shrinking candidate pools further and stretching out the time needed to fill specialized positions in regulated industries that handle sensitive information.
Founded in 1993, PSCI provides IT staffing and consulting for technology work that includes automation and machine learning projects. The company is located at 2 Righter Pkwy 110, Wilmington, DE 19803.
